DEAN´S ORDINANCE No. 2/2006
STATE FINAL EXAMINATIONS AT THE FACULTY OF EDUCATION USB, ČESKÉ BUDĚJOVICE

1. The Bachelor and Magister programmes of study at the Faculty of Education, USB, are completed by the State Final Examination. Its administration is regulated by the provisions of Act No. 111/1998, as amended, and the Programme and Assessment Regulations of the USB, as amended.

2. In Bachelor programmes the State Final Examination consists of
   - an examination in the relevant subject specialism;
   - the defence of a Bachelor paper.
   Note: The examination in the relevant subject specialism may be further divided into constituent parts. A separate constituent of the State Final Examination is deemed such a coherent part that is awarded a mark.

   A Bachelor paper is assigned by the relevant specialist Department, or Departments, and is appraised, as a rule, by one expert appointed by the Department Head.

3. In the M 7503 magister programme for elementary teaching, specialising in primary school teaching, the State Final Examination comprises four compulsory constituent parts:
   - an examination in the Czech language and literature, and methodology;
   - an examination in mathematics and methodology;
   - an examination in pedagogy and psychology;
   - the defence of a Diploma thesis.

   In the M 7503 magister programme for elementary teaching, specialising in primary school teaching and English for primary school, the State Final Examination also includes an examination in the relevant language and methodology.

   Each constituent part of SFE may be taken following the completion of all compulsory and optional subjects in the relevant part of the programme which is completed by this part of SFE. Prior to sitting the last constituent part of SFE, a student must gain the required number of credits in prescribed composition.

   A student of these specialisms may be assigned a Diploma thesis by any of the Departments that have shared in his/her programme of study. The defence of this diploma thesis shall be administered on a fixed date at the Department where the thesis was assigned. The Diploma thesis is appraised by the supervisor and an opponent appointed by the Head of the Department.

   Each of the above mentioned coherent constituents of SFE is marked separately.

4. In the M 7503 magister programme for elementary teaching, specialising in senior level teaching, and in the M 7504 magister programme for secondary school teaching, the State Final Examination comprises of four compulsory constituent parts:
   - an examination in the first Subject Specialism and methodology;
   - an examination in the second Subject Specialism and methodology;
   - an examination in Pedagogy and Psychology;
   - the defence of a Diploma thesis.

   Each of these coherent constituents of SFE is marked separately. Prior to sitting the last constituent part of SFE, a student must gain the required number of credits in prescribed composition.

   A student of these specialisms may be assigned a Diploma thesis by one of the Departments guaranteeing the subject study, or by the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology. Still there is no temporal connection between the Diploma thesis and the oral State Final Examination in the same specialism. The Diploma thesis is appraised by the supervisor and an opponent appointed by the Head of the Department.

5. If a student of any specialism wishes to do the Diploma thesis at a research centre outside the Faculty of Education, the following prerequisites must be met concurrently:

   1. the theme of the thesis must be within the scope of the studied specialism in a Bachelor or Magister programme;
   2. the official assignment of the theme may be completed in a statement signed by the Dean only following the approval of the Head of the PF USB Department quaranteeing the relevant specialism, or in the case of interdisciplinary specialisms, following the approval of the Vice-Dean for Study Affairs.

6. The oral or combined examination as a constituent part of the State Final Examination may be taken on fixed dates regardless of the stage of the diploma thesis in progress.

7. State Final Examinations are administered annually, in the exam period of the summer and winter terms acording to the schedule designed by the Vice-Dean for study affairs and the Faculty Registrar, which is based on the data provided by individual Departments. Failure in one evaluated part of the SFE will not annul the results in other parts. In the event of such failure the student shall resit only the part that was classified as "nevyhověl/a" /failed.

8. The Programme of study shall be duly completed by the State Final Examination within the time limits prescribed by the Higher Education Act and The Programme and Assessment Regulations of the USB, i.e. at the latest, in the academic year following the year in which a student has fulfilled all prerequisites of the State Final Examination (the acquisition of 180 credits in a three-year Bachelor programme; the acquisition of 190 credits in a three-year follow-up programme; the acquisition of 240 credits in a four-year Bachelor or Magister programme; and the acquisition of 300 credits in a five-year Magister programme), regardless whether in this subsequent year he/she is registered as a student or has deferred the Programme for this ("candidate") year.

9. This provision invalidates Dean's Ordinance No. 2/2005.

10. This ordinance is effective from the beginning of the academic year 2006/2007.
