STATE FINAL EXAMINATIONS AT THE FACULTY OF EDUCATION, USB, ČESKÉ BUDĚJOVICE

  1. The bachelor and magister programmes at the Faculty of Education, USB, shall be completed by the State Final Examination (hereinafter SFE). Its administration and procedures are regulated by the provisions of Act No.111/1998, as amended, and the Programme and Assessment Regulations of the USB, as amended.

  2. SFE may be divided into separate parts. In which case as separate shall be considered such a coherent part of SFE that is awarded a mark.

  3. In bachelor programmes accredited as One-Subject Specialisms, SFE consists of:
    - an examination in the relevant subject specialism;
    - the defence of a bachelor paper.

    Note.: If the examination in the relevant subject specialism is further divided into separate parts, as mentioned in the accreditation material, the procedure shall follow par 2 of this ordinance and the bachelor paper shall not be linked with any of these parts. For the last part of SFE the student must accumulate a number of credits as prescribed in par 9 of this ordinance. If SFE is not divided into separate parts, the provision of Section 30, par. 5 of the Programme and Assessment Regulations of the USB shall be applied.

    The bachelor paper shall be assigned by the relevant specialised department or by the departments that guaranteed compulsory or optional subjects in the specialism to which the theme of the paper is related. The paper shall be defended at the department where it has been assigned. The bachelor paper shall be appraised by at least one examiner. In such a case the opinion shall be written by the supervisor.

  4. In bachelor programmes accredited as Two-Subject Specialisms, SFE consists of:
    - examination in the first Subject Specialism;
    - examination in the second Subject Specialism;
    - examination in Pedagogy and Psychology;
    - defence of the bachelor paper.
    Each part of SFE may be taken on completion of all compulsory and optional subjects in the specialism which concludes the part of SFE. Prior to sitting the last part of SFE the student must accumulate a number of credits according to par. 9 of this ordinance.

    Bachelor papers in these specialisms may be assigned by one of the guaranteeing departments, but not by the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology. N.B. there will be no time relation between the bachelor paper and the oral State Final Examination in the same specialism. The bachelor paper will be appraised by at least one examiner. In such a case the opinion will be written by the supervisor.

  5. In the M 7503 magister programme for basic school teachers - specialising in primary school teaching (junior level of basic school) - SFE shall consist of four compulsory parts:
    - examination in the Czech Language and Literature and Methodology;
    - examination in Mathematics and Methodology;
    - examination in Pedagogy and Psychology;
    - defence of a diploma thesis.

    In the M 7503 magister programme for basic school teachers - a combined programme of primary teaching and teaching a foreign language at primary level - SFE shall also include an examination in the relevant language and methodology.

    Each constituent part of SFE may be taken following the completion of all compulsory and optional subjects in that part of the programme which will conclude the related part of SFE. Prior to sitting the last constituent part of SFE, the student must gain a number of credits according to par. 9 of this ordinance.

    Diploma theses in these specialisms may be assigned by any of the departments that have shared in the student's plan of study. If the thesis is assigned on the Czech Language and Literature and Methodology, or on Mathematics and Methodology, or on Pedagogy and Psychology, or on Foreign Language Teaching, there shall be no temporal connection between the thesis and the related specialism. The defence of such a diploma thesis shall be administered on a fixed date at the department where the thesis was assigned. The diploma thesis shall be appraised by the supervisor and an opponent appointed by the head of department.

  6. In the M 7503 Magister Programme for Basic School Teachers, specialising in teaching at senior level of basic school or in the M 7504 Magister Programme for Secondary School Teachers or in the N 7503 follow-up Magister Programme for Basic School teachers, SFE shall consist of four compulsory parts:
    - examination in the first subject specialism and methodology;
    - examination in the second subject specialism and methodology;
    - examination in Pedagogy and Psychology;
    - defence of a diploma thesis.

    Each constituent part of SFE may be taken following the completion of all compulsory and optional subjects of the specialism which will conclude the related part of SFE. Prior to sitting the last constituent part of SFE, the student must accumulate a number of credits according to par. 9 of this ordinance.

    Diploma theses in these specialisms may be assigned by one of the guaranteeing departments or by the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology. N.B. there shall be no time relation between the bachelor paper and the oral State Final Examination in the related specialism. The diploma thesis shall be appraised by the supervisor and an opponent appointed by the head of department.

  7. If a student of any specialism wishes to write a bachelor paper or diploma thesis at a research centre outside the Faculty of Education, the following prerequisites must be met concurrently:

    1. the theme of such a paper or thesis must be within the scope of the studied specialism in a bachelor or magister programme;
    2. the official assignment of the theme may be completed in a statement signed by the Dean only following the approval of the head of the PF USB Department quaranteeing the relevant specialism; or in the case of interdisciplinary specialisms or in the case of interdisciplinary specialisms following the approval of the Vice-Dean for Study Affairs.
  8. State Final Examinations shall administered annually in the exam period of the summer and winter terms acording to the schedule designed by the Vice-Dean for Study Affairs and the Faculty Registrar which shall be based on the data provided by individual departments. Failure in one evaluated part of the SFE shalll not annul the results in other parts. In the event of such a failure the student shall resit only the part that was classified as "nevyhověl/a" [failed]

  9. The programme of study shall be duly completed by SFE within the time limits prescribed by the Higher Education Act and The USB Programme and Assessment Regulations, i.e. at the latest, in the academic year following the year in which the student has fulfilled all prerequisites of SFE (the accumulation of 180 credits in a three-year bachelor programme; the accumulation of 120 credits in a two-year follow-up programme; the accumulation of 190 credits in a three-year follow-up programme; the accumulation of 240 credits in a four-year bachelor or magister programme; and the accumulation of 300 credits in a five-year magister programme), regardless of whether in this subsequent year he/she is registered as a student or has deferred the programme for this ("candidate") year.

  10. This provision invalidates Dean's Ordinance No. 3/2009.

  11. This ordinace shall be effective from the date of issuance. Rulings given prior to this date of issuance remain effective.
